Dutch municipalities Olst‑Wijhe and Waalwijk post positive 2025 budgets and launch new housing and infrastructure plans

The municipality of Olst‑Wijhe in the Netherlands closed its 2025 financial year with a surplus of more than €1.5 million on a total expenditure of around €70 million. The council highlighted investments in new affordable housing, traffic safety, greener public spaces and the completion of the Kindcentrum Olst, alongside the adoption of long‑term spatial and social visions.

Waalwijk also reported a strong 2025 result, posting a surplus of over €7 million. The town used the budget surplus to fund further housing projects, including 123 new rental apartments, and to advance its Strategic Vision 2050, mobility improvements funded by a €29.3 million national allocation, and sustainability initiatives such as a wind‑farm tender.

Both municipalities emphasised continued investment in affordable homes, improved transport links, and environmental measures while maintaining prudent fiscal management.
