Dutch towns finalize coalition agreements and appoint new local councils

Several Dutch municipalities announced new coalition agreements and the appointment of local executive boards for the coming term. In Wageningen, Guido van Vulpen, Ingrid Hijman and Jan Daenen were appointed as wethouders, forming the college with Mayor Floor Vermeulen for a four‑year mandate. In Stadskanaal, formateurs Van der Schaaf and Velema reported ongoing talks among CDA, PvdA‑GroenLinks, and VVD, aiming for a summer agreement on a coalition program.

Woerden’s VVD nominated Vincent Janssen, a provincial finance specialist, as its candidate‑wethouder, while Altena’s coalition of CDA, SGP, PSV and VVD approved a 2026‑2030 governing agreement and set out the four‑member college. Oostzaan’s new coalition of CDA, GroenLinks, D66 and PvdA presented a program that includes a potential municipal merger, though no partner was named. Voorschoten’s PRO, VVD and D66 formalised a coalition pact, assigning portfolios to Rachèl van Hellemondt, Pieter Varekamp and Esther Mieremet, and outlining priorities on housing, social services and infrastructure.

All agreements address fiscal constraints, service provision and local development, reflecting a broader trend of municipal coalition building across the Netherlands.
