Dutch museums launch new historical and artistic exhibitions

Museum Tweestromenland in Beneden-Leeuwen is launching a new exhibition titled ‘Sporen van steenfabrieken’ (Traces of Brick Factories), featuring the work of artists Nellie Hendriks and Ben Wasser. The exhibition explores the 150-year history of the brick industry in the Maas and Waal river region, which significantly shaped the local landscape and economy until many factories closed due to automation in the 1950s and 1960s. Hendriks utilizes abstract drawings and various materials inspired by industrial tools, while Wasser provides figurative paintings depicting the changing landscape.

In Oude Wetering, Museum Oud Alkemade has opened ‘Kom je spelen?’ (Will you come play?), an exhibition focused on historical toys and school life within the former municipality of Alkemade. The collection includes items such as spinning tops, doll carriages, old typewriters, and rotary telephones, many of which are sourced from the museum’s own depot or loaned by local residents. The exhibition aims to evoke nostalgia in older visitors and serve as an educational tool for children.
