Dutch outdoor swimming pools report high visitor numbers

Outdoor swimming pools in the Netherlands are reporting high visitor numbers due to recent heatwaves.

In Ten Boer, the De Blinkerd pool has already surpassed 30,000 visitors this season. Management expects to welcome its 33,333rd visitor before the season ends on September 5, with a free 2027 subscription offered as a prize for that milestone. The increase follows warmer-than-average temperatures in the region.

In Leiden, the De Vliet outdoor pool reached a significant milestone by welcoming its 100,000th visitor of the season. Sport Councilor Wietske Veltman presented the visitor, Joke van der Poel, with a free subscription for 2027. This high turnout is considered unusual, as the pool typically attracts approximately 70,000 visitors per season.
