Dutch rider Alex Molenaar crashes and withdraws from Tour de France 2026

Alex Molenaar, racing for Caja Rural‑Seguros RGA, suffered a crash in the final kilometres of the fifth stage of the 2026 Tour de France. He reported that he could not recall the incident, describing himself as slightly disoriented. Medical staff attended him promptly and he will undergo the race’s concussion protocol, though initial assessments indicated no broken bones.

Molenaar’s withdrawal leaves the Dutch contingent reduced as the race continues. On the same day, Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard contested the first mountain stage, with Pogačar extending his lead to over two minutes after a dominant performance on the Tourmalet. The stage also saw other contenders such as Remco Evenepoel and Seixas vying for positions, while several riders, including Cian Uijtdebroeks, withdrew due to illness.
