Dutch sports seasons begin with opening losses in hockey

The new sports season has commenced in the Netherlands with several opening match results in field hockey and ice hockey.

In the women's Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse field hockey, HGC suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against SCHC, despite an early lead by Carlijn van Geest. HDM also faced a close loss, falling 1-2 to Hurley after Kaat Walhof scored a goal from a penalty corner.

In ice hockey, GIJS began their season with a 6-3 loss to the OG Capitals in Leeuwarden. Although GIJS briefly held a 1-2 lead in the first period, the Capitals took control in the second and third periods to secure the victory. GIJS currently sits in seventh place in the standings.
