Dutch streaming services expand into podcast market

The Dutch streaming landscape is seeing significant shifts as platforms expand into audio and podcasting. Videoland is transitioning into a broader entertainment platform by introducing exclusive podcasts and vodcasts starting October 8. Key additions include the true crime podcast ‘Moordcast’ by Dionne and Henrik Slagter, as well as ‘Bankzitters de Podcast’. The platform will also host new productions from personalities such as Renze Klamer and Kees van der Spek, with advertising handled by Ad Alliance.

In the broader market, Podimo is demonstrating strong performance relative to the public broadcaster NPO/Ster. While NPO/Ster maintains the largest network with 2.8 million weekly downloads across more than 500 titles, Podimo has achieved 1.2 million weekly downloads with only 174 titles. Podimo’s growth is attributed to its strategy of acquiring major podcast production companies like Tonny Media and Dag en Nacht Media, as well as offering a centralized app that hosts both its own exclusive content and free third-party podcasts.
