Dutch supporters protest mandatory digital stadium access
Dutch football supporters are mobilizing against a proposed mandate by the KNVB to implement Personal Digital Access (PDT) at professional stadiums. The system, which would require supporters to identify themselves before entering a stadium, is slated for mandatory implementation starting from the 2028/2029 season.
Supporter groups, including De Vriendenkring and Supporterscollectief Nederland, have issued statements criticizing the measure as disproportionate. They have raised significant concerns regarding data privacy, the security of personal information, and the potential for the system to create barriers for regular fans. Critics argue that the system's effectiveness remains unproven and that supporters have been excluded from the decision-making process.
While some clubs like Feyenoord are monitoring the developments, others have expressed a sense of inevitability. Dominique Scholten, a general director, noted that while the decision appears to be imminent, clubs may have little choice but to comply if the mandate is finalized.
