Dutch survey shows half of travelers favor simple, scenic vacations
A survey of 1,067 Dutch residents commissioned by insurer Univé reveals that 49% of respondents want less luxury on holiday, while 63% would rather take a longer, simpler trip than a short, upscale one. Nearly half (48%) actively seek unique experiences, and 35% find an adventurous vacation more appealing than a relaxing one. The trend is strongest among people under 30, with three‑quarters of that age group deliberately looking for special experiences.
Separate research on driving habits shows that 75% of drivers would opt for a more scenic route even if it adds travel time, with an average extra duration of 41 minutes. About one‑third of motorists arrive at their destination in roughly the same time, and a quarter even get there earlier by avoiding congested highways. Together, the findings indicate a Dutch preference for simplicity and enjoyment over speed when traveling.
