Dutch Woman Undergoes Laser Removal of 250 Forced Tattoos

Joke, a 53‑year‑old woman from Rotterdam, was compelled by an abusive ex‑partner, Hans, to tattoo his name and other markings across her face and body, totaling about 250 tattoos. After escaping the abusive relationship, she sought help from the foundation Spijt van Tattoo, which offers free laser‑based tattoo removal to victims of forced body art.

The foundation has begun treating Joke with a series of laser sessions that require local anaesthesia due to the intense pain. Seven sessions have already been completed, and she reports significant improvement and a renewed sense of freedom. Spijt van Tattoo’s director, Andy Han, said the organization plans to expand its free‑treatment model to other countries, aiming to support more victims of similar abuse worldwide.
