Dutch women sue lab and health ministry over cervical‑cancer screening data breach

The Women’s Rights Collective, representing Dutch women, has filed a lawsuit against Clinical Diagnostics and the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport after a cyberattack exposed the personal medical records of hundreds of thousands of women participating in the national cervical‑cancer screening program. The breach has eroded confidence in the screening, with recent polls indicating that more than a third of the population is now hesitant to take part in government‑run health screenings.

Beyond compensation, the collective aims to address broader forms of digital violence against women, targeting online sexual exploitation platforms such as the website Motherless. The legal action seeks both damages for the victims and measures to improve data security and protect women from online abuse.
