Dutch work culture and employer attractiveness under scrutiny

Experts Arjan Elbers and Nicol Tadema have released a new book, ‘Het geheim van de meest aantrekkelijke werkgevers’, which examines how organizations can strengthen employer attractiveness. Addressing labor shortages in sectors such as healthcare, technology, construction, ICT, and defense, the authors argue that Human Resources and recruitment must take on strategic roles to connect leadership with employees.

Through case studies from various organizations, including Rabobank and Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), the research explores the links between human behavior, leadership, and organizational culture. The work emphasizes that attracting and retaining staff requires more than just communication; it necessitates creating environments where employees can function effectively.

Complementing these themes, the documentary ‘De manager’ by Maartje Bakers explores contemporary work culture through an anthropological lens. The film examines the role of management and the pressure for continuous productivity increases, using performance reviews and organizational rituals to illustrate the complexities of modern professional environments.
