Dávid Vitézy announces long-term Hungarian road renovation program

Dávid Vitézy, the Minister of Transport and Investment, announced that a long-term national road renovation program will be unveiled in September. The initiative aims to create a predictable, year-over-year improvement in the state-managed road network.

According to the Minister, more than 700 kilometers of roads are being improved or have been improved this year through a combination of Magyar Közút's own works and projects by external contractors. This includes nearly 140 kilometers of secondary roads renovated by Magyar Közút alone, with work completed in 19 counties. Additionally, approximately 570 kilometers of main and secondary roads are undergoing or nearing completion of full renovations by external contractors.

The announcement highlights a significant infrastructure challenge, noting that the state-managed network of over 31,000 kilometers inherited a heavy renovation debt, with nearly half of the national roads requiring immediate, full-scale reconstruction.
