DVLA expands services in Ghana through new offices and subsidized licensing
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is expanding its service reach in Ghana through decentralization and local partnerships. In the Asuogyaman District, a new DVLA office has been commissioned, marking the 25th of 40 planned district offices intended to be operational by the end of 2026. This expansion aims to reduce the need for citizens to travel long distances for vehicle registration and license renewals.
To support these efforts, local leaders are sponsoring licensing initiatives. In Asuogyaman, MP and Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Nyarko Ampem is sponsoring license acquisition and renewals for 500 drivers and riders. Similarly, in the Asutifi North Constituency, MP Ebenezer Kwaku Addo is partnering with the DVLA to provide subsidies covering one-third of the costs for 100 to 150 commercial drivers and riders.
Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe emphasized that these measures, alongside new technologies like ‘Traffic Tech’ and number plates with embedded SIM technology, are designed to improve road safety, combat indiscipline, and curb the use of fraudulent intermediaries.
