Dwane Casey appointed head coach of new Italian club SPQR Roma

Former NBA Coach of the Year Dwane Casey, who led the Toronto Raptors to an NBA title in 2019 before being dismissed, has been named head coach of the newly formed Italian basketball team SPQR Roma. The club, owned by NBA star Luka Dončić and former Dallas Mavericks executive Donnie Nelson, acquired the Vanoli Cremona license and will compete in the ULEB EuroCup next season. Casey's résumé includes stints with the Detroit Pistons, coaching roles in Japan and college basketball, and a period as the Pistons' senior advisor. SPQR Roma is expected to add Latvian national team guard Artūrs Strautiņš to its roster, along with an international mix of players from Montenegro, France, the United States and other countries.
