Dwayne Johnson discusses how WWE career aided Hollywood transition
Dwayne Johnson, known as The Rock, has discussed how his professional wrestling career in the WWE provided a foundation for his transition into Hollywood. During an interview with Elmo Lovano, Johnson noted that his experience performing live helped him develop crowd acumen, allowing him to understand how an audience dictates the flow of a performance.
Johnson recalled an early acting lesson where a coach challenged him to perform a lengthy monologue with only 60 seconds of preparation time. He credited his ability to handle such pressure to the experience of cutting promos in wrestling. Seeking longevity in the industry, Johnson began working with professional acting coaches at age 29, a practice he continues to this day. He also touched upon Morgan Freeman’s perspective that acting requires a level of natural talent that is difficult to teach.
