D’Wayne Wiggins’ $700K estate frozen amid family legal dispute

A judge has frozen distributions from the reported $700,000 estate and trust of D’Wayne Wiggins, the co-founder of Tony! Toni! Toné!, following a legal dispute among his relatives. The court order prevents funds from being distributed to outside parties and has halted charitable payments, including scholarships and grants associated with his work.

The conflict centers on whether Wiggins possessed the mental capacity to execute new estate documents shortly before his death from cancer in March 2025. His niece, Veleta Savannah, maintains that a medical evaluation conducted just before the signing found him ‘alert’ and capable of managing his affairs. She asserts that Wiggins intentionally chose her to oversee the estate and intended to disinherit his children.

However, Wiggins’ daughter, Ilahn Wiggins, and other family members contest these claims. They argue that at the time the documents were signed, he was receiving end-of-life care and taking powerful medications that may have impaired his ability to make significant legal and financial decisions.
