European banks report strong Q3 2026 earnings

Major European financial institutions reported robust third-quarter 2026 results, frequently exceeding analyst expectations.

Deutsche Bank achieved its third consecutive quarter of record profits, reporting a post-tax profit of €1.9 billion for the quarter. The bank's pre-tax profit rose 8% to €2.6 billion, while total revenue increased 4% to €8.3 billion. CEO Christian Sewing expressed confidence in exceeding the bank's 2028 return on tangible equity target of 13%.

BNP Paribas reported Q3 net profits of €3.46 billion, surpassing estimates. The bank also announced a €1.3 billion share buyback program scheduled to begin in November.

Societe Generale saw its net profits rise 24% year-on-year to €1.89 billion. This growth was driven by a 46% surge in equity trading revenues, which reached €1.2 billion, helping to offset a 21% decline in fixed-income trading revenues.

DWS reported record net inflows of €30.9 billion for the third quarter, although rising costs impacted profit margins.
