DXVK-Sarek 1.14.0 released to support older GPUs on Linux

DXVK-Sarek version 1.14.0 has been released, providing a specialized fork of the original DXVK to support older graphics processing units (GPUs) that lack modern Vulkan support. This tool translates Microsoft’s Direct3D into Vulkan, allowing Windows games to run on Linux via Wine or Proton on hardware that the mainline DXVK project no longer serves.

Key improvements in this update include a new feature that transparently reports missing Vulkan extensions and displays a [DEGRADED] status when hardware limitations affect rendering. The release also addresses stability issues by replacing the chunk allocator with upstream page and pool allocators, which aims to resolve memory leaks and out-of-memory (OOM) crashes during long gaming sessions.

Additionally, the update includes improved D3D7 support, fixes for macOS MoltenVK black screens, and corrections for specific titles like Civilization VI. With the Proton-Sarek project discontinued, Proton-CachyOS is currently the only officially supported method to run Sarek under Proton.
