Dyed Hair Summer Care: UV, Salt and Chlorine Protection Tips

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation weakens hair keratin, breaks down colour pigments and damages the protective outer layer of the hair shaft. In addition, sea salt dehydrates strands while chlorine from pools can shift colour tones, especially in light‑blond shades.

To preserve colour and hair health during beach or pool outings, experts recommend wetting the hair with fresh water before exposure, using leave‑in sprays or mists that contain UV filters, and wearing a wide‑brimmed hat to limit direct sunlight. These measures create a barrier that reduces UV absorption, limits salt uptake and protects against chlorine‑induced colour changes, keeping dyed hair vibrant and less prone to breakage throughout the summer months.
