Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin seeks trade, team in turmoil

Captain Dylan Larkin has formally requested a trade from the Detroit Red Wings, submitting a list that includes the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars and, in some reports, the Carolina Hurricanes. Larkin is under an eight‑year contract worth about $8.7 million per year through the 2031 season, and the organization has expressed strong displeasure at his request.

The trade saga follows the July 15 departure of longtime general manager Steve Yzerman, who moved to a senior advisory role for owner Chris Ilitch. The Red Wings have yet to name a new GM, leaving the front office in flux. Off‑season moves have been limited to the departure of veteran Patrick Kane, the trade of goaltender Sebastian Cossa, and Larkin’s trade demand, fueling speculation about the team’s direction after a tenth consecutive missed playoff season.

As of August, no trade has been finalized, and the uncertainty surrounding Larkin’s future continues to dominate the franchise’s offseason narrative.
