Dylan Lucas pays tribute to late Newcastle coach Scott Dureau

Newcastle Knights forward Dylan Lucas has paid tribute to the late Scott Dureau, a former player and coach who was instrumental in the early stages of Lucas's career.

Lucas made a significant return to the field during the Knights' recent elimination final victory over the Warriors in Auckland. This comeback follows a serious injury sustained in round 21 against the Roosters, where Lucas suffered a fractured and dislocated ankle, an injury previously thought to be season-ending.

Scott Dureau, a former Knight who played in the No. 7 jersey, passed away in July at the age of 39 after a 13-year struggle with cancer. Lucas, who previously played in the Illawarra Steelers system and was not considered a top prospect for the Dragons, credited Dureau with helping him establish himself at Newcastle at the Jersey Flegg level.
