Dynamo Dresden supervisory board chair faces internal investigation
Michael Ziegenbalg, the chairman of the supervisory board at Dynamo Dresden, is facing an honorary council investigation following allegations of potential conflicts of interest. Several club members have requested the proceedings to examine business dealings between the club and Ziegenbalg’s employer, Mecklenburgische Versicherung.
The investigation focuses on insurance contracts for the club’s vehicle fleet, as well as potential coverage for the club's fan shop and warehouse. These transactions are estimated to be worth between high five-figure and low six-figure amounts. While there is currently no suspicion of personal enrichment—as the prices reportedly align with market rates—concerns have been raised regarding compliance with club statutes.
According to club management led by Stephan Zimmermann, the responsibility for concluding insurance contracts of this scale lies with the executive board. It appears the supervisory board was only informed of these agreements after they had already been finalized, potentially bypassing required formal approval processes mandated by the club's bylaws.
