DYPA workers face life-threatening verbal threats in Greece

The OAED Employees Federation has issued a formal complaint regarding life-threatening verbal assaults against workers at the Public Employment Service (DYPA). In a recent incident, an unemployed citizen reportedly threatened staff, stating, “I will come with a shotgun and leave orphans.”

The confrontation allegedly stemmed from the individual's inability to receive a prepaid card, which resulted in the non-payment of unemployment benefits. The Federation maintains that employees had completed all necessary administrative procedures and are not responsible for the delays.

Union representatives claim these incidents are not isolated. They argue that the implementation of the new prepaid card system has created significant malfunctions for benefit recipients and increased safety risks for staff. The Federation has called on the DYPA administration and the Ministry of Labour to take responsibility, stating that workers should not serve as a “punching bag” for systemic failures caused by the design and implementation of the new payment method.
