Dyrenes Beskyttelse reports record animal rescues this summer

Dyrenes Beskyttelse has reported a record-breaking summer for its emergency response services. During June and July, the organization's emergency dispatch responded to 9,444 calls, an increase of 622 interventions compared to the same period last year.

Animal welfare chief Yvonne Johansen noted that summer is one of the busiest periods due to the high number of young animals, such as kittens, hedgehogs, and birds, requiring assistance. The most frequent calls involved stray or distressed cats, followed by deer involved in traffic accidents.

In addition to the busy summer, the organization is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its 1812 emergency hotline, which was established in August 2011. Data from the first half of 2026 indicates that the year may become a new record for total animal rescues, with 24,966 interventions recorded so far.
