Dyson technology evolves hair care through intelligent sensors
The technology behind personal care tools, specifically hair dryers, has shifted from a focus on raw power and temperature to precision, intelligent control, and ergonomic design. Using the Dyson Supersonic line as a case study, the evolution shows a transition from mechanical drying to adaptive processes driven by sensors and automation.
Recent innovations include the integration of Time-of-Flight sensors, as seen in the 2024 Supersonic Nural, which detects proximity to the scalp to automatically regulate heat and prevent thermal damage. Additionally, RFID technology allows devices to recognize specific attachments and adjust airflow or settings accordingly. Integrated accelerometers also enable devices to detect pauses in movement, immediately reducing temperature and airflow to optimize efficiency.
Physical architecture is also evolving to improve maneuverability. Newer iterations aim for significant reductions in size and weight to address the practical challenges of handling these tools during extended use.
