Düzce project concludes to prevent child labor during hazelnut harvest

A seasonal project aimed at preventing the worst forms of child labor during the hazelnut harvest has concluded in the Cumayeri district of Düzce, Turkey. The initiative was carried out through a collaboration between the Ministry of Labour and Social Security's General Directorate of Labour and the International Labour Organization (ILO) Turkey Office.

Coordinated by the Directorate of National Education, the program provided educational and social support to 100 students throughout August. Under the guidance of 10 teachers, the project sought to ensure that children remained engaged in learning and social activities rather than being pulled into seasonal agricultural work due to economic pressures.

The season concluded with a ceremony at Cumayeri Mehmet Metin Primary School, attended by Düzce Governor Mehmet Makas and other local officials. The event featured student performances, including folk dances and choral music, highlighting the social and cultural development goals of the program.
