Turkey conducts major criminal investigations and narcotics operations
Turkey has conducted several major law enforcement operations across multiple provinces. In a significant development regarding the investigation into the 2009 helicopter crash that killed Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched a second wave of operations. This phase resulted in the detention of 38 suspects, 36 of whom were arrested. The investigation is examining allegations of premeditated murder linked to FETÖ activities. Among those arrested is former BBP Erzurum Provincial Chairman Emrullah Önalan. The total number of arrests in this case has reached 55.
Simultaneously, a massive nationwide narcotics operation coordinated by the Ministry of Interior and the Gendarmerie General Command took place across 35 provinces. Authorities seized 653 kilograms of narcotics and 410,412 drug pills. The operation also led to the destruction of over 1.2 million cannabis and skunk plants. A total of 264 suspects were detained, with 172 being arrested.
Other law enforcement activities included a crackdown on fraudulent inheritance schemes involving TOKİ lands, resulting in 7 arrests, and an operation against illegal betting sites in 12 provinces, where 30 suspects were identified and 4.1 billion lira in transaction volume was detected.
