Düzce Province Deploys Samurai Bees to Combat Brown Stink Bug in Hazelnut Orchards
In the Kaynaşlı district of Düzce Province, Turkey, a biological‑control program released samurai bees (Samuray arıcığı) to target the brown stink bug (kahverengi kokarca) that damages hazelnut orchards. Field investigations confirmed that the bees parasitise the pest’s eggs, markedly reducing its population.
The effort, coordinated by the Düzce Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Kaynaşlı District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, is presented as an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical pesticides. Hazelnut growers reported encouraging results and view the method as a step toward more sustainable production.
