Turkey student housing: KYK dormitory results and rental market trends
As the 2026-2027 academic year approaches, university students in Turkey are navigating housing challenges involving both state dormitories and private rentals. The Ministry of Youth and Sports (GSB) is currently evaluating applications for KYK dormitories. While an official announcement date for results has not been released, students are expected to check their status via the e-Devlet portal once the social and economic assessments are complete.
In the private rental market, housing costs and safety vary by region. In Eskişehir, 1+1 apartment rentals have reached levels between 15,000 TL and 16,000 TL. In Gaziantep, despite increased demand from students and civil servants, real estate officials report that the expected rent surge has not materialized due to sufficient housing supply, with 1+1 units ranging from 12,000 TL to 15,000 TL.
Real estate professionals in Düzce have issued warnings to students and families to avoid unauthorized agents and to verify property ownership and licensing before signing contracts. Experts emphasize checking for official authorization certificates to prevent fraud involving unexpected fees or unauthorized intermediaries.
