Działoszyce holds referendum on mayor and council dismissal

On 19 July 2026 the town of Działoszyce in Poland conducted a referendum allowing residents to decide whether to remove the mayor and the city council before the end of their terms. Voting took place in six regular polling stations from 07:00 to 21:00, with each voter receiving two ballot cards – one for the mayor and one for the council – and a required turnout of at least three‑fifths of the electorate that participated in the previous election (minimum 1,643 voters for the mayor and 1,645 for the council).

Election officials reported logistical issues such as missing signage at one polling station, while the local police monitored compliance with the referendum silence period. Residents were split: some praised the mayor’s eight‑year tenure, while others highlighted persistent flooding, inadequate drainage infrastructure and insufficient communication from officials as reasons to seek change.
