E-Bus Xpress expands electric bus network into Kira Municipality

E-Bus Xpress (EBX), a subsidiary of Kiira Motors Corporation, is expanding its electric mass-transit network into Kira Municipality within the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area. The expansion, launched on August 28, 2026, utilizes locally produced Kayoola electric buses to connect residential communities to Ntinda and Kampala.

New routes include connections through Najjera, Namugongo, Kyanja, and Kyaliwajjala. The service features air-conditioned vehicles, onboard Wi-Fi, and a cashless payment system. To mark the launch, EBX is offering free rides to passengers from August 28 through September 6.

This rollout is part of a long-term strategy by Kiira Motors to deploy 1,500 electric buses across 14 Ugandan cities by 2031. The initiative aims to provide a safer, scheduled, and zero-emission alternative to informal transport modes in the region.
