E-commerce fraud alert: Scammers use real order data to solicit IBAN payments

Cybersecurity experts are warning consumers about a sophisticated e-commerce fraud tactic where scammers use actual order details to manipulate victims into making payments outside of official platforms.

Muharrem Baki, Chairman of the Consumer Confederation Cybersecurity Commission, noted that fraudsters exploit the trust built by referencing real order information. Scammers contact customers via fake messages or calls, claiming there is a problem with an order, such as an incorrect product price or a required price difference. They then direct users to transfer funds via IBAN or through fraudulent payment links.

To prevent these scams, experts advise consumers to never click on links in SMS messages from unknown sources and to avoid downloading unverified applications. All transaction details and order statuses should be verified exclusively through the official website or application of the e-commerce platform.
