E-commerce growth strategies focus on exclusive overseas brands and cross-border sales

E-commerce businesses in Japan are exploring new growth strategies to overcome market saturation and intense price competition. As the domestic BtoC e-commerce market is projected to reach approximately 26.1 trillion yen in 2024, companies are shifting focus from mere marketing improvements to enhancing product competitiveness.

One highlighted strategy involves identifying successful overseas brands that have not yet entered the Japanese market and securing exclusive distribution rights. This approach aims to differentiate businesses from competitors who often sell similar products. Additionally, leveraging crowdfunding for test marketing is suggested as a way to develop new product lines without the high risks of original product development.

To support these transitions, Marketing Association Co., Ltd. has announced a free online seminar scheduled for October 13, 2026. The session is designed for e-commerce operators looking to start cross-border sales, covering essential topics such as logistics, legal requirements, and determining if products will be successful in international markets.
