E-commerce in Mexico grows as digital platforms dominate market
E-commerce in Mexico is experiencing rapid expansion, reaching 941 billion pesos in sales during 2025, a 19.2% increase from the previous year. According to the Asociación Mexicana de Venta Online, 77.2 million people in the country now shop online. Market dominance is highly concentrated, with Amazon and Mercado Libre accounting for over 85% of these sales, according to analysis by the Comisión Federal de Competencia Económica.
This digital shift creates significant price pressure on traditional local businesses. Digital platforms leverage large-scale operations and lower overhead costs to offer prices often 10% to 30% lower than physical stores. While 62% of Mexican consumers prioritize seeking offers and discounts when making purchases, local commerce maintains a presence; 46% of surveyed consumers report shopping at local stores to support their communities.
