E-commerce sector prepares for record holiday peak season

The e-commerce industry is preparing for an increasingly intense peak shopping season. Amazon’s busiest period is centered around the holiday window, specifically from Black Friday through Cyber Monday and extending into mid-December.

Recent trends indicate that peak seasons are starting earlier each year. This summer, Prime Day sales reached over $26 billion, a 9 percent increase from the previous year, nearly approaching the $32 billion spent during the 2025 Black Friday and Cyber Monday period. This growth suggests that the upcoming holiday season could be the largest on record.

For commerce companies, these surges serve as a critical test for technological infrastructure. High-volume events, such as the 66 percent spike in order volume seen during the 2025 Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend, expose weaknesses in fragmented systems, siloed data, and brittle integrations. To manage this, many retailers are focusing on modernizing operations through AI and automation in areas like inventory forecasting, order management, and fulfillment.
