E Hospital doctors manage complex lung cancer case with brain metastasis

A 62-year-old patient with lung cancer that has metastasized to the brain is receiving treatment at the Chemotherapy Department of E Hospital in Vietnam. The patient, who has a history of heavy smoking and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), presented with symptoms including coughing, chest pain, and increasing weakness on the left side of the body.

Dr. Trinh The Cuong noted that while the patient's family requested a treatment plan that is simultaneously the fastest, best, and cheapest, medical priorities must focus on safety and suitability. The immediate clinical focus is stabilizing the patient's general condition by managing brain edema, using antibiotics, bronchodilators, and anti-inflammatories, rather than starting chemotherapy immediately.

Medical staff have decided to prioritize controlling the brain metastases to prevent further neurological decline. The doctors also addressed the family's concerns regarding medical insurance coverage, emphasizing that insurance-covered medications can be effective if administered to the right patient at the correct time.
