E. Leclerc to close its only hypermarket in Szczecin

The French retail chain E. Leclerc has announced that its sole hypermarket in Szczecin, Poland, will cease operations on November 1, 2026. This location is one of only two stores operated by the brand in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, the other being in Kołobrzeg.

The company stated that the decision followed a business potential analysis. E. Leclerc emphasized that it remains committed to growth in Poland, but will focus on modernizing high-potential locations and increasing operational efficiency. This strategy involves adapting stores to better meet customer expectations and developing additional services. Similar closures occurred in 2024 in Malbork, Konin, Poznań, and Kędzierzyn-Koźle.

Patrycja Sienkiewicz-Nowak, Director of Trade and International Cooperation at E. Leclerc, noted that competitive advantage in the dynamic retail sector is built through effective capital allocation and responding to local demand. The company has already implemented modernization efforts in locations such as Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Gliwice, and Oleśnica.
