e& UAE successfully tests eRedCap on live network
e& UAE has announced the successful testing of eRedCap on its live network, making it the first telecom operator globally to achieve this milestone. The technology provides a pathway for enterprises and public-sector organizations to migrate widely deployed Internet of Things (IoT) applications from legacy LTE technologies to a more energy-efficient, 5G-native platform.
eRedCap is specifically designed for connected devices that do not require the full performance capabilities of standard 5G. It is suitable for applications such as smart utility meters, industrial sensors, asset and fleet tracking, payment terminals, and building-management systems. The technology offers the necessary coverage, battery life, and cost profile required for large-scale deployments while ensuring a route into the 5G-Advanced ecosystem.
Abdulrahman Al Humaidan, Senior Vice President of Access Network Development at e& UAE, stated that testing this capability on a live commercial network provides sectors like manufacturing, logistics, and smart-city operations a credible path to scale connected devices as the industry transitions beyond LTE. The implementation aims to reduce network fragmentation, simplify deployment, and support the long-term refarming of LTE spectrum by allowing enterprises to consolidate IoT use cases on 5G Standalone.
