E-waste Race competition launches for Dutch primary schools

The E-waste Race has launched in the Dutch municipalities of Kampen, Zwartewaterland, and Staphorst. Running from August 31 to September 24, the initiative involves nine teams from various primary schools competing to collect the largest amount of electronic waste.

Launched by Alderman Jan Carlo Bos at the Prins Mauritsschool in Staphorst, the program aims to educate children on the importance of recycling and reusing electronics. Currently, approximately half of the electronic waste in the Netherlands is not collected, often remaining stored in homes despite containing valuable materials.

Participating schools receive educational lessons and engage in collection efforts by having residents sign up for home pickups or by delivering items to Wecycle recycling points. The school that collects the most waste will be awarded a prize on September 24.
