E6 motorway expansion proposed to ease Halland traffic

The Social Democrats in Region Halland are advocating for the expansion of the E6 motorway to six lanes between Kungsbacka and Gothenburg to address growing traffic congestion. The current four-lane stretch has become a bottleneck, causing significant delays for commuters and businesses.

Proponents argue that while rail improvements like the West Coast Line expansion remain a priority, road infrastructure must also be upgraded to accommodate rising traffic volumes. This demand is driven by increased regional integration, the upcoming opening of the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link, and major local industrial projects such as the expansion at Ringhals. The E6 serves as a critical transport artery connecting the continent, Gothenburg, and Norway.
