EA Sports announces open-world American football project

Electronic Arts (EA) has revealed plans for a new American football project codenamed ‘Project Gridiron’. According to a company communication released in late October 2026, the project is described as a ‘completely new experience in an open world, centered around social interaction’ for the company’s American football team.

While specific details regarding gameplay, release dates, or target platforms have not been disclosed, the project appears to focus on social spaces and virtual environments where players can interact outside of traditional match settings. This move follows trends seen in other sports titles, such as the ‘The City’ mode in the NBA 2K series.

In addition to Project Gridiron, EA confirmed it is in the pre-production phase for a revival of the Fight Night boxing series, marking the return of the franchise after more than a decade. It remains unclear if Project Gridiron will be a standalone title or an expansion of existing franchises like Madden NFL.
