EACC expands anti-corruption efforts through religious and international partnerships

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) of Kenya is expanding its efforts to combat corruption through new domestic and international partnerships.

Domestically, the EACC has entered into a partnership with the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB). This collaboration aims to promote ethical leadership, strengthen accountability, and utilize the Church’s grassroots presence and communication networks to mobilize communities against unethical practices. EACC officials noted that faith-based organizations play a vital role in shaping values and influencing behavior to reject corruption.

Internationally, the EACC is enhancing its capacity to trace illicit wealth and recover assets through a partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (NAZAHA). Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023, Saudi Arabia is providing specialized training for EACC officers. This training focuses on investigating complex corruption cases, identifying beneficial ownership, and following illicit financial flows across borders to prevent officials from hiding public funds abroad.
