EADV Congress 2026 highlights skincare misinformation and new dermatological treatments
The European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Congress 2026 in Vienna has highlighted significant advancements in dermatological treatments and raised concerns regarding social media influence on skin health.
A study presented at the congress revealed that nearly 95% of viral TikTok videos regarding Korean skincare and the ‘glass skin’ trend contained misleading information. Researchers found that 84% of these videos failed to account for different skin types, and 45% promoted excessive combinations of active ingredients without adequate warnings. The study noted a systematic omission of safety information, with almost no mention of irritation risks, sun protection, or contact dermatitis.
In clinical developments, the congress featured data on several therapeutic areas. Highlights included phase 3 results for upadacitinib in treating vitiligo, phase 2b efficacy for tulisokibart in hidradenitis suppurativa, and findings for zumilokibart in atopic dermatitis. Additionally, research presented links between climate change and the worsening of skin diseases, alongside studies on the dermatologic effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists.
