Eagle Eye Drama acquires rights to Barbara Cartland biography

Eagle Eye Drama, a scripted production company owned by ITV Studios, has acquired the rights to ‘The Great Dictator’, a biography of Dame Barbara Cartland written by historian and novelist Matthew Sweet.

Cartland, a highly prolific English novelist known for her signature pink chiffon style, was one of the most successful authors of the 20th century, with sales estimated at nearly one billion copies across 38 languages. The biography, published by Hodder & Stoughton in September, is based on extensive research into the Cartland family archives.

Eagle Eye Drama intends to use the book as the foundation for a scripted series. The production company is known for works such as ‘Professor T’ and ‘The Couple Next Door’. Company leadership described Cartland as a central figure in British society who interacted with various political and royal figures throughout her life.
