Eagle Point Resort to Remain Closed for 2026‑27 Season After Cottonwood Fire Damage

Eagle Point Resort in Beaver County, Utah, announced it will not operate for the 2026‑27 winter season. The decision follows extensive damage from the June‑July Cottonwood Fire, which burned more than 97,000 acres and destroyed roughly half of the resort’s skiable terrain. Four of the five chairlifts were damaged, the Canyonside Lodge and Tushar Ridge warming station were lost, and the fire contributed to the destruction of 145 homes and condos in the surrounding community. Limited road access – only an unpaved route from Junction – has slowed inspections and repairs, and replacement parts for lift ropes can take months to produce. Resort owner Shane Gadbaw said safety concerns make a timely reopening impossible. Recovery efforts are underway, including forest‑restoration planning for about 2,000 acres of private land and grant applications for watershed and wildfire‑mitigation projects.
