Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School opens Bronx campus
The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School has opened its permanent 70,000-square-foot facility in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. The $39.5 million charter school serves students in grades 9 through 12, focusing on connecting academics with basketball-related career opportunities such as journalism, analytics, marketing, and law.
At the dedication ceremony, former New York Knicks players Earl Monroe, John Starks, and Stephon Marbury attended alongside former U.S. Senator and NBA champion Bill Bradley and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. Founder Dan Klores noted the school's mission is to prepare students for off-the-court professions, emphasizing that not everyone will play professionally.
Since opening at a temporary location in 2021, the school has grown to approximately 470 students. School officials highlighted a focus on literacy and math in the first two years of study, reporting that previous classes achieved a 100 percent college acceptance rate.
