Early detection critical for breast and thyroid cancers

Medical experts are emphasizing the importance of early detection for breast and thyroid cancers, noting that symptoms can often be subtle or absent in early stages.

For breast cancer, warning signs include new lumps in the breast or armpit, nipple retraction, skin dimpling or thickening, changes in shape or size, and unusual nipple discharge, particularly if bloody. While breast pain does not always indicate cancer, persistent or localized pain should be evaluated. Risk factors include age, hormonal changes, reproductive history, and family history.

Regarding thyroid cancer, cases are frequently discovered incidentally during general health screenings. Family history is a significant risk factor, as certain genetic mutations and syndromes can increase susceptibility. While many thyroid nodules are benign, those classified with high suspicion of malignancy require careful management. Advances in treatment, such as the use of the Da Vinci Xi robot, allow for more precise surgical interventions with improved aesthetic outcomes compared to traditional open surgery.
