Early detection of childhood leukemia symptoms critical for remission

Medical specialists are emphasizing the importance of early detection for childhood leukemia, noting that timely diagnosis can increase remission rates by up to 80%.

Key warning signs include persistent fever (often around 38°C to 38.5°C) without evident infection, unexplained osteomuscular pain in the hips or back, and the appearance of bruises or small red spots (petechiae) on the legs, feet, or mouth. Other symptoms include spontaneous nosebleeds, gum bleeding, swollen lymph nodes in the neck or armpits, weight loss, paleness, and changes in vision or balance.

In Morelos, Mexico, the State Reference Center for the Care of Children with Cancer (OncoCREAN) currently manages 30 patients in active treatment and 30 under medical surveillance. Experts advise that if symptoms persist for more than three days, parents should seek immediate pediatric evaluation to perform blood tests for white blood cell, hemoglobin, and platelet levels.
