Early stimulation and sensory play drive infant neurodevelopment
Specialists highlight the importance of early stimulation and sensory exploration for newborn neurodevelopment. Experts from Grupo Médico Santa Paula (GMSP) suggest that activity gyms, or ‘Baby Gyms’, are effective pedagogical tools starting from the first month of life. These tools help strengthen muscle tone through activities like ‘tummy time’, improve hand-eye coordination, and promote brain plasticity through various colors, textures, and sounds.
Research published in the journal ‘Infant Behavior and Development’ also indicates that everyday household objects play a significant role in a baby's learning process. Studies observing infants at home found that babies spend a substantial portion of their time interacting with both toys and domestic items. These spontaneous interactions allow infants to discover physical properties and practice new skills through exploration.
